UNILAK hosts Pan African Movement Rwanda Chapter conference to promote rich history and ideals of the African Continent

In a bid to foster awareness and celebrate the historical significance of the African Continent, UNILAK hosts the Pan African Movement Rwanda Chapter conference. The conference, held on the university campus, aimed to educate the general public, students, and staff about the diverse cultural heritage and the ideals of Pan-Africanism. Mr Epimaque Twagirimana, the deputy Chairperson of Pan-African Movement Rwanda Chapter emphasized the significance of promoting a sense of shared identity and unity among African nations. “Understanding our past is crucial for shaping our collective future. Pan-Africanism is not just a historical movement; it’s a philosophy that encourages solidarity, cooperation, and self-determination.” He said. One of the primary objectives of the conference was to debunk misconceptions about Africa and present the continent’s rich history and cultural contributions to the world. Attendees were provided with enlightening sessions on pre-colonial African civilizations, traditional African art, and literature dispelling stereotypes that have perpetuated over the years. Professor Wael Kortam trains UNILAK lecturers on Grant Proposal Writing

The University of Lay Adventists of Kigali, a prestigious institution renowned for its academic excellence, recently had the privilege of hosting Professor Wael Kortam, a distinguished scholar from the esteemed University of Cairo, Egypt who conducted a comprehensive training session on grant proposal writing for the university’s lecturers. Prof. Wael Kortam Appointed as a Professor of Marketing

UNILAK is pleased to announce that Prof. Wael Kortam has been appointed as Professor of Marketing in the Faculty of Economic Sciences and Management.   Prof. Wael Kortam has been a Vice Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Research, Vice Dean for Undergraduate Education, Head of Business Administration and Marketing Departments and Dean at the Universities of Cairo, GUC, MIU and Heliopolis.   Prof. Wael Kortam founded the joint bachelor program with Georgia State University, USA and Joint Postgraduate Sports Management Diploma with the FIFA, International Office and Cairo University International Branch.   Prof. Kortam has supervised and examined a large number of Master and Doctoral theses at Egyptian, Arab, European, Asian and American Universities. He is also an expert member of the board of trustees of the National Training Academy chaired by the President of Egypt and executive board of the Public Company for Real Estate Marketing (Real Mark).   Prof. Kortam obtained a PhD degree in marketing research and Marketing Information Systems (MKIS) from the University of Nottingham, UK in 1997.   Professor worked as a Fulbright Research Scholar at George Washington University, USA, 2000-2001. He is also appointed as a Head of the Supreme Council of Egyptian Universities for promotion to Professors and Associate Professors Posts since 2013.   Professor Kortam has a large number of research papers, chapters in books and books published in highly profiled international academic conferences, world class high impact factor academic journals indexed in Scopus, Web of Science, Google Scholar and Research Gate and well recognised publishers in the areas of Marketing Research, Marketing Theory, Strategic Marketing and Marketing of Universities. He was awarded Emerald Award for Best Marketing Paper in the world twice in 2003 and 2012.   Prof. Wael Kortam is also an active professional marketing consultant and trainer with long standing experience across the Arab World, UK, USA, Switzerland, Germany, India, China, Singapore and Australia. Nyanza District, in collaboration with the Joint Action Development Forum organized an Open Day event aimed at showcasing the various development activities and programs in the area. Among the participants, UNILAK Nyanza Campus took center stage, proudly displaying its programs and highlighting its notable achievements. The event which took two days from June 29th to June 30th, 2023 provided an excellent opportunity for the university to connect with the community and display its commitment to the development of Nyanza District and the country in general. The exhibition attracted a significant number of visitors, including members of the Nyanza District community, students and officials from the district administration. Visitors, who came to the stand of UNILAK Nyanza Campus, were eager to learn more about the institution and its contributions to the community. The campus had prepared an impressive display, featuring detailed information about its academic programs, extracurricular activities, and successful initiatives. UNILAK has organized research seminars for final year students.

The Faculty of Economic Sciences and Management at the University of Lay Adventists of Kigali recently organized a two-day research seminar aimed at preparing final year students for their upcoming dissertations. The seminars, held from June 2nd to 3rd and June 24th to 25th, 2023, were conducted at the UNILAK Nyanza and Rwamagana campuses, respectively. The research seminars provided an excellent opportunity for students to refine their research skills under the guidance of experienced faculty members. Recognizing the importance of proper preparation before embarking on their dissertation projects, the dean of the faculty, Dr. Christine Umumarangu emphasized the value of sharpening research skills during the seminars. “Throughout the two-day event, students were equipped with essential knowledge on various aspects of research. They were trained on the different steps involved in conducting research, including methodological considerations for data collection and analysis, both for quantitative and qualitative data” said Dr Christine. “Additionally, the seminars focused on teaching students how to effectively make references, a crucial component of academic writing” she added. The students expressed their gratitude towards the university for initiating these research seminars. They acknowledged the significance of the training in enhancing their research capabilities and thanked the faculty for providing such a valuable opportunity. Furthermore, the students demonstrated their commitment to producing research of high quality, with the intention of publishing their work in local and international journals.
