As the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Administration, Finance and Partnerships, it is my great pleasure to welcome you to the University of Lay Adventists of Kigali (UNILAK). Our University is dedicated to providing a world-class education and fostering a supportive community for all of our members.

About the Deputy Vice Chancellor – Finance and Administration

Mr. Richard NIYONKURU is the currently Deputy Vice Chancellor of Administration, Finance and Partnerships, at the University of Lay Adventist Kigali. Mr. Richard NIYONKURU is responsible for overseeing the financial and administrative operations of UNILAK. Some of the key responsibilities of this position include developing and implementing financial strategies, managing budgets and financial reporting, overseeing human resources and payroll, and providing strategic leadership to the administrative and finance departments.

Additionally, Mr. Richard NIYONKURU is responsible for ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, managing risk, and providing operational support to other departments.


Mr. Richard NIYONKURU is a seasoned University Administrator with over 20 years of working experience in Rwanda and internationally.

He has an M.Com, Management: University of the Western Cape, South Africa and Licencié en Gestion: Université Nationale du Rwanda.

Mr. Richard NIYONKURU has held a number of leadership and management positions that have entailed the simultaneous oversight of several departments/functions. He understands the relevant policies and legal framework for financial management, budgeting, resource mobilization, and strategic management for higher education in Rwanda.

Mr. Richard NIYONKURU also has a wealth of experience in both academic and professional settings, with a strong background in business management and entrepreneurship.

He has diverse work experience in both the public and private sectors has provided me with a unique perspective on strategic planning, budgeting, policy development, and monitoring and evaluation. 

As Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Administration, Finance and Partnerships at UNILAK, he plays a critical role in overseeing the university’s financial and administrative operations. His experience as a lecturer in business management and entrepreneurship, as well as working as a business development manager and independent consultant, have provided him with valuable insights into how to successfully manage and grow an organization.
