Prof. Anthony Uwaya, Head of Partnerships at UNILAK, is currently on an official visit to the University of Ottawa to explore collaboration opportunities with the Open African Innovation Research Network (Open AIR). This significant initiative is supported by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), and the Government of Canada.
The discussions aim to foster a robust partnership that will culminate in the establishment of a dedicated Innovation Hub in Rwanda, hosted by UNILAK. This Hub will serve as platform for advancing research, policy development, and capacity building in the field of open innovation across Africa.
Prof. Anthony Uwaya emphasized the transformative potential of this collaboration, stating, “Partnering with the University of Ottawa and Open AIR positions UNILAK at the forefront of innovation research in Africa. This Hub will empower researchers, entrepreneurs, and policymakers to drive sustainable development through inclusive and open innovation practices.”
The proposed Hub will facilitate knowledge exchange, joint research projects, and policy advocacy, aligning with UNILAK’s commitment to fostering academic excellence and community impact. It will also create opportunities for faculty and students to engage in cutting-edge research that addresses regional and continental challenges.
