UNILAK Academic Committee addresses pressing student concerns on campus

In a significant step towards fostering a more conducive and inclusive learning environment,
the UNILAK Academic Committee met with students from the institution to set a smooth
learning environment and tackle pressing issues encountered on campus. This marks a
significant step forward in the university’s commitment to fostering an inclusive and enriching
academic atmosphere.
The meeting has drawn the active participation of students from various departments and
programs, eager to engage with university officials to voice their concerns and propose
solutions. The students’ participation reflects the university’s commitment to maintaining an
open and transparent dialogue with its student body.
Dr. Emmanuel Hakizimana, the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academics and Chair of the
Academic Committee, stated, “We recognize that students are the heart and soul of our
university. Their input is invaluable in shaping the educational experience. By engaging in open
and constructive dialogue, we can identify and address issues that may affect their learning and
well-being.”
Topics of discussion include academic support, campus facilities, extracurricular activities,
mental health services, and any other issues students feel are pertinent.
Mr. Steven Rwabuhihi, the guild president of UNILAK Kigali Students Association, expressed his
enthusiasm for this initiative. He said, “It’s refreshing to see our university taking an active
interest in our experiences. By involving us in decision-making, they are creating a more
positive learning environment for all of us.”
The university administration is hopeful that this collaborative approach will help enhance the
overall quality of education at UNILAK, making it an even more attractive choice for prospective
students.
As UNILAK continues its commitment to providing a nurturing academic environment, the
collaborative efforts of the Academic Committee and the students themselves stand as a
shining example of an institution dedicated to the well-being and success of its student body.
The Academic Committee at UNILAK plans to continue engaging with students through regular
meetings and open forums to ensure a supportive learning environment. The university aims to
create a campus where all students can reach their full potential and thrive academically.
